La susurrante y silenciosa voz de Mathew Sweet quien reside en Southampton, Inglaterra, irrumpe con su tercer disco en Kranky.
“How Shadows Chase the Balance” nos muestra un folk con poesía oscura y el arte del CD tiene un aire gótico. Los punteos de guitarra de Sweet, la batería, teclados y registros de campo manipulados es la performance que despliega para crear una verdadera delicada y apacible música.
El álbum está perfectamente equilibrado; cada canción captura la fragilidad de la belleza desplegando sus fantasmales atmósferas. Si tuviera que elegir una canción me quedaría con “A Spirit Harness” con sus suaves golpes al platillo, la mayor fuerza que adquiere la voz de Sweet y las bellas notas de piano hacia el final de la canción.

The whispering and quiet voice of Southampton’s, England based Mathew Sweet brings to life his third release on Kranky.
‘How Shadows Chase the Balance’ deals with folk dark poetry and the art of the CD has a gothic feel. Sweet’s fingertip guitar, drums, keyboard and manipulated field recordings is his set-up and deploys them to create a truly delicate and quiet music.
The album is perfectly balanced; every song captures the fragility of beauty unfolding haunting atmospheres. If I have to choose a song I’ll do it with ‘A Spirit Harness’ with its soft drumming, Sweet’s stronger vocals and the fine piano notes at the end of the song. Brilliant!
