La susurrante y silenciosa voz de Mathew Sweet, residente en Southampton, Inglaterra, edita su cuarto disco en Kranky después de su anterior álbum “How Shadows Chase the Balance” (2008).
Las estructuras de canción y el enfoque minimal de su último disco permanecen intactos, en los que Sweet toca la guitarra, bajo, piano y batería. Sin embargo, aparecen arranques de guitarras rockeras.
“Decapitation Blues” muestra a Sweet tocando unas finas líneas de piano en una austera atmósfera. “Absolutely Null And Utterly Void” despliega tonos brillantes, una aguda guitarra y vibrante bajo, produciendo un poderoso sonido.
“The Giant Umbilical Cord That Connects Your Brain to the Centre of the Universe” mantiene la esencia de tranquilidad y silencio de este álbum, solo interrumpida por las filudas guitarras de “I Am Going Away And I Am Never Coming Back” que cierra este disco.

The whispering and quiet voice of Southampton’s, England based Mathew Sweet brings to life his fourth release on Kranky after his previous “How Shadows Chase the Balance” (2008) album.
The base song structures and minimal approach of his last release still remain here in which Sweet plays electric guitar, bass, piano and drums, although emerge a rock guitar edge.
“Decapitation Blues” shows Sweet playing just fine piano lines into an austere atmosphere. “Absolutely Null And Utterly Void” scattered shiny tones and twang guitar and vibrant bass producing a powerful sound.
“The Giant Umbilical Cord That Connects Your Brain to the Centre of the Universe” keeps the essence of this album of quietness and silence, few times interrupted by the sharp guitars of “I Am Going Away And I Am Never Coming Back” that close this album.
