Christopher Willits, ‘Plants and Hearts’, Room40, 2007

He is a musician and multimedia artist based in San Francisco, California who has been very active since 1998, releasing many solo works on labels such as Ghostly International (USA), 12k (USA), Sub Rosa (Belgium), Nibble (USA), Ache Records (Canada), Fallt (Ireland), Yacca (Japan) and Plop (Japan).
He has made several collaborations along with Taylor Deupree, the Flossin band, Zach Hill, Miguel Depedro (Kid606), Matmos. Also, Willits and Brad Laner (formerly of Medicine) recently released a new album as the North Valley Subconscious Orchestra on Ghostly International and other contributions. He works as well on installations and video.
‘Plants and Hearts’ is only one piece of 21 minutes long in which Willits plays his main instrument, the guitar, plus many other electronic devices with which he manipulates and produces a wide palette of sounds that lead to an amazing drone guitar section.
In spite of being only one track, it can be appreciated from time to time how a fade-out starts a guitar drone and new shapes of guitar ambient lines appear—both attractive and delicate.
