Loscil, Plume, Kranky 2006

Este es la cuarta entrega del músico de Vancouver Scott Morgan y como él mismo dice en la nota de prensa, este nuevo álbum Plume tiene una aproximación similar a First Narrows; sobre una estructura armónica, capas de teclados ambientales, fue la base sobre la cual músicos en vivo fueron improvisando. Es así como Joe Zumpano quien tocó en First Narrows el piano fender rhodes también participa en este disco, Steve Word, Krista [pareja de Morgan] y Josh Lindstrom que tocó xilófono y vibráfono.
Plume es un fluir de notas ambientales de sintetizador y pequeños e insinuantes beats que apenas asoman pero que estructuran una base rítmica muy solapada. Esta base ambiental, sutilmente es intervenida por pulsaciones de piano rhodes, vibráfono y xilófono. Su forma, si tuviéramos que graficarla, son ondulantes imágenes de paisajes de montaña que vemos pasar muy lentamente.
Este disco es sencillamente exquisito, como para dejarse ir entre sus nubes.

Vancouver-based sound artist Scott Morgan’s fourth album resembles his previous work (First Narrows) in terms of methodology: a series of live improvisations on Fender Rhodes piano, ebow guitar, xylophone and vibraphone courtesy of friends Joe Zumpano, Steve Word, Krista and John Lindstrom are layered over a harmonic stratum of diaphanous keyboard smudges.
Plume presents a sinuous run of gossamer wisps and restrained beats that, though barely audible, forge a suggestive rhythmic base subtly encroached upon by bursts of electric piano and idiophones.
The overall shape of the work, were one to render it in pictorial form, would approximate the slow rise and fall of curvaceous landscapes as experienced from a shifting vantage point.
One cannot but help drifting through the intricately-patterned cloud formations of this lovely, delicate record.
