Om / Current 93

Om / Current 93, “Inerrant Rays Of Infallible Sun (Blackship Shrinebuilder)”, Durtro/Jnana, 2006

Neo-Dark-Folks Current 93, lead by David Tibet, and the psychedelic stoners from OM, hailed from San Francisco, comprised of bassist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius (ex-Sleep), worked together during a tour to which they were invited by Tibet and recorded the split 10-inch Inerrant Rays Of Infallible Sun (Blackship Shrinebuilder).
On Rays of the sun/to the shrinebuilder, Cisneros produces a bass drone and peculiar lyrics while Hakius bangs a heavy drum beat for almost 8 minutes, creating an amazing mantra. On the other side, Tibet on Inerrant Infallible (Black Ships at Ninevah and Edom) sings in his unique way and invokes Biblical inspirations and refers to Jhonn Balance’s death, while he plays a dissonant guitar and bass lines. Catriona MacAffer, at the end of the song, provides beautiful bagpipes.
Inerrant Infallible… is quite different from Current 93’s previous albums, showing this time a more guitar-edged vein.
