Son cuatro finlandeses quienes formaron el núcleo creativo de Paavoharju que se compone por Ragnar Rock, Olli Ainala, Lauri Ainala y Arwi Lind, aunque la agrupación va cambiando continuamente.
El nuevo folk finlandés que algunos inscriben dentro del free-folk es una mezcla de improvisación, sintetizadores análogos, objetos encontrados procesados, cánticos religiosos y oscuras atmósferas en las que emerge una angelical voz. Todo ello hecho bajo la estética DIY y con tecnología de grabación casera y que el sello establecido en Ulvila, una villa cerca de Tampere, publica en edición limitada, con maravillosas carátulas y dibujos.
“Yhä Hämärää” resulta impredecible, cada tema nos sorprende con un estilo distinto, lo que parecería un pop onírico de “Valo tihkuu kaiken läpi”, “Kuu lohduttaa huolestuneita”, “Ilmaa virtaa” y “Puhuri”; “Syvyys” parece ser un canto religioso con reminiscencia cortesana. El hecho que esté cantado en finlandés muestra un matiz casi misterioso, que hace tan especial el folk de “Aamuauringon tuntuinen” y “Vitivalkoinen”. “On yhä hämärää” decididamente recoge el interés de Paavoharju por lo religioso en medio de una atmósfera enrarecida con diversos ruidos mientras en el fondo se escucha un coro y órgano. El tema final “Musta vatu” muestra la faceta pop de este grupo.

They are four Finns who formed the creative core of Paavoharju that is comprised by Ragnar Rock, Olli Ainala, Lauri Ainala and Arwi Lind, although the line-up is changing all the time.
The new Finnish folk that some can set into the free-folk genre is a mix of improvisation, vintage electronics, processed found sounds, religious chants and dark atmospheres in which an angelical voice emerges. All it made under the DIY aesthetic with home recording technology and that the label based in Ulvila, a village near Tampere, releases in a limited edition, with nice artwork and drawings.
‘Yhä Hämärää’ is unpredictable — each track surprises us with a different style, which could be a dreaming pop like on ‘Valo tihkuu kaiken läpi’, ‘Kuu lohduttaa huolestuneita’, ‘Ilmaa virtaa’ and ‘Puhuri’; ‘Syvyys’ seems to be a religious song that evokes a Medieval chant. As it is sung in Finnish, it shows an almost mysterious shade that makes the folk so special as on ‘Aamuauringon tuntuinen’ and ‘Vitivalkoinen’. ‘On yhä hämärää’ decidedly gathers the interest of Paavoharju on religion with a rarified atmosphere in the background with diverse noises, while in the background a choir and organ can be heard. The final track ‘Musta vatu’ shows the pop facet of this group.
