Richard Chartier y Yann Novak son artistas sonoros de gran trayectoria en la música experimental electrónica. Ambos trabajan en la vertiente minimalista y en arte sonoro reduccionista.
Novak ahora vive en Los Ángeles, antes lo hacía en Seattle y entiendo que todavía dirige su sello Dragon’s Eye Recordings. Chartier vive en Washington y actualmente está cambiándose a otra ciudad. Dirige el sello 3 Particles y el subsello Line.
La forma en que se planteó este trabajo colaborativo fue muy particular. Sin mediar concepto alguno, Chartier envió un tema sin terminar a Novak, sin más indicaciones que agregara o sacara lo que él quisiera o una combinación de ambas para completar el tema. Novak a su vez envió a Chartier lo que había grabado para que lo aprobara o rechazara lo que había hecho.
El resultado de este trabajo es un imperceptible drone que se construye con unas pocas capas de sonido que se van entrelazando. Algunas emiten una onda sonora aguda y fina, mientras otras se despliegan hacia espacios de mayor amplitud que insinúan apacibles paisajes sonoros.
‘Undefined’ es inquietante y al mismo tiempo invita al oyente a una escucha muy profunda.

Richard Chartier and Yann Novak are two renowned sound artists in the electronic experimental music. Both work on the minimalist field and reductionist sound art.
Novak now lives in Los Angeles, before he did it in Seattle and as far as I know still run Dragon’s Eye Recordings imprint. Chartier lives in Washington and is currently moving to another city. He run 3 Particles and the Line sublabel.
The way was raised this collaborative work was very particular. Without saying any concept, Chartier sent an unfinished piece to Novak, without further indication that he could add or take out whatever he wanted or a combination of both in order to complete the piece. Novak sent back the recording to Chartier for an approval or rejection of what he had done.
The result of this work is an imperceptible drone that is built with a few layers of sound that are intertwined. Some emit an acute and thin sound wave while others unfold to areas of greater breadth and hint at gentle soundscapes.
‘Undefined’ is disturbing and at the same time invites the listener to a deep listening.
