Tor Lundvall

Tor Lunvall, quien reside en Nueva York, tiene un bachiller en arte. Es pintor y músico.
Como pintor ha realizado varias exhibiciones en Estados Unidos y sus pinturas han servido como portadas para discos de artistas como Sol Invictus (aka Tony Wakeford), para Blue Note Records, entre otros.
Comenzó su carrera musical en 1997 y desde entonces ha editado siete discos en los sellos Eternal Autumn Editions, y en los últimos tres años en Strange Fortune de la ciudad de Sommerville, Massachusetts. En 2006, se editaron el EP “Yule” y el álbum “Empty City”.
La música de Lundvall tiene un perfecto balance entre el ambient y el dark.

Tor Lunvall holds a Bachelor in Arts, he’s a painter and musician who is based in New York.
As a painter he has achieved several exhibitions in the USA, and his artworks have been published for various artists such as Sol Invictus (aka Tony Wakeford), for Blue Note Records, among other imprints.
He started in 1997 and since then he has released seven works published on Eternal Autumn Editions, and in the last three years on Sommerville, Massachusetts’s Strange Fortune.
Last year was released the Yule EP and the Empty City album.
Lundvall’s music has a perfect balance between ambient and dark.

La belleza de la melancholia es una parte esencial en «Empty City». ¿Qué opinión tienes?
“Supongo que hay una sensación melancólica que se ve en toda mi música. No siempre es algo intencional, pero supongo que estos sentimientos y perspectivas van a salir de mí de alguna forma u otra”.

¿Cómo combinas tu trabajo musical con la pintura?
“Son uno y son lo mismo. Los mismos temas y procesos son parte del trabajo en ambos ámbitos. Cuando estoy grabando una obra musical estoy constantemente agregando y removiendo elementos, tal como lo hago cuando estoy pintando. Todo esto es un lenguaje visual”.

En mi opinión el LP “Nada!” de Death In June es uno de los mejores álbumes de esta banda. ¿Cuál es tu opinión?
“La primera vez que escuché este álbum fue cuando estaba inicialmente reeditado en los ’90. Con este dato, solo estaba familiarizado con los siguientes tres discos de DIJ. En aquel tiempo recuerdo que con ‘Nada’ me impresioné. Creo que es el LP de Death In June más cercano al pop, pero de alguna manera todavía se resiste a estar categorizado. La creatividad de Patrick (Leargas) parece ser muy fuerte en este disco y sus talentos como compositor realmente se destacan. Todavía escucho a ‘Nada!’ de tanto en tanto y aunque no sea de mis álbumes favoritos de DIJ, todavía trae extrañas memorias de esos brumosos y lluviosos días de principios de la primavera”.

¿Cómo fue tu experiencia de trabajar con Tony Wakeford?
“Me ha gustado mucho trabajar con Tony a lo largo de los años tanto musicalmente como de otra forma. Él tiene un increíble sentido del humor y único como ninguno otro que haya conocido. Hemos estado hablando de colaborar nuevamente, por lo que probablemente va a haber una continuación al álbum ‘Autumn Calls’ que se editará en algún momento”.

The beauty of melancholy it’s an essential part of the Empty City album. What’s your opinion about?
“I suppose there is a sense of melancholy that comes through in all of my music. It’s not always intentional, but I suppose these feelings and perspectives will come out of me one way or another.”

How do you combine the musical work with your painting?
“They are one and the same. The same issues and processes are at work in both pursuits. When I’m recording a piece of music, I am constantly adding and removing elements just as I do when I’m painting. It’s all a visual language.”

In my opinion Death In June’s Nada! LP is one of the best albums of this band. What’s your opinion about?
“I first heard this album when it was initially reissued on CD back in 1990. Up to that point, I was only familiar with the three subsequent DIJ albums. I remember being impressed with Nada! at the time. I think it’s the closest Death in June ever came to releasing a pop album, but somehow it still managed to avoid categorization. Patrick’s creative input seems to be quite heavy on this album, and his talents as a songwriter really shine through. I still play Nada! from time to time, and although it is not my all-time favorite DIJ album, it still brings back strange memories of those foggy, rainy days in early spring.”

How was your experience working with Tony Wakeford?
“I’ve enjoyed working with Tony over the years both musically and otherwise. He has an incredible sense of humor as yet unmatched in any other individual I have met. We’ve talked about collaborating again, so there will most likely be a follow-up album to Autumn Calls released at some point further down the road.”
