**Fairmont, “I Want To See The Sun Come Up” / “Hotel Deauville”, Echocord / Playmade Minus, 2005/2006**

Estos 12” [formato exquisito y adictivo] son parte del material que ha editado el músico de Toronto, Canadá, Jake Fairley, bajo el alias Fairmont, en los últimos meses, prosiguiendo la senda comenzada con el LP “Paper Stara”, editado el 2002 por Traum Schallplatten.
El primero, editado por el fino sello danés Echocord, abre con un track único en el lado A, con un tema que da el título a este EP, el que lentamente nos envuelve e hipnotiza, con una estructura mínima y acogedora, la voz de Fairley enciende la mecha que nos da el despegue y placer auditivo. “Walk to the water”, abre el lado B, pieza instrumental de exquisita melodía y ritmo; finalmente “Let’s stay young forever” con un placentero intro pop ambient para terminar muy arriba, casi en la euforia.
“Hotel Deauville”, bajo la etiqueta del sello alemán Playmade Minus, tiene en una de sus principales influencias la estadía en Cuba de Fairley y su pareja. Similar en estructura a “I Want to see the sun come up”, es decir 3 temas, en este caso todos instrumentales. El aspecto rítmico lo proporciona el tema que da el nombre a este EP, mientras que el relajo lo entrega “Malecon”, que cierra la entrega.
Aspectos similares a ambas destacadas producciones es la marcada sonoridad análoga y el acertado manejo de la tensión rítmica. Existe cierta percepción histórica en los diferentes sonidos utilizados, con especial énfasis en sintetizadores de los 80’s y del movimiento electrónico inglés de principios de los 90’s, usados en un contexto personal y elegante, como es el que Fairmont ya nos tiene acostumbrados.

**Fairmont, ‘I Want To See The Sun Come Up’ / ‘Hotel Deauville’, Echocord / Playmade Minus, 2005/2006**

These twelve inches [finest and addictive format] are part of the material that this Toronto, Canada based artist Jake Fairley has published in the last months under the Fairmont moniker, following the footpath started with the ‘Paper Stars’ LP released in 2002 on Traum Schallplatten.
The first 12” published by the delicate Danish Echocord label opens with a unique track that gives the title to this EP, the one that little by little conquers and hypnotizes us, with a minimum and cosy frame, Fairley’s voice ignites the wick that gives the takeoff and pleasant audition. The B side opener ‘Walk to the water’, is an exquisite instrumental piece of melody and rhythm and finally ‘Let’s stay Young forever’ it’s a pleasant pop ambient intro that ends high above, almost in the euphoria.
‘Deauville Hotel’, under the German Playmade Minus imprint, has one its main influences Cuba, when Fairley and his girlfriend spent sometime in the island. With a similar structure to ‘I Want to see the sun eats up’ – of three cuts but now all are instrumentals. The rythmical aspect is given by the track that gives the name to this EP, while the laidback grooves come from ‘Malecón’, which ends this EP.
Similar aspects to both outstanding productions are marked by analogous sonority and the right handling of the rythmical tension. There is a certain historical perception of the different sounds used with a special emphasis in the eighties synthesizers, and of the English electronic movement of the early 90’s, which are used in a personal and elegant context, that Fairmont usually give to us.
