Los suecos David y Per componen Library Tapes desde el verano boreal del pasado año. David está a cargo de la programación, piano y guitarra acústica y Per en balalaica [instrumento ruso de cuerda de la familia del laúd], guitarra acústica y eléctrica [con una batuta] y piano.
Su música es exquisita y elegante, oscura y melancólica, evocadora de imágenes y colores pálidos. Su sonido es una mezcla perfecta de timbres del piano y los acordes de guitarra clásica, y las distorsiones y feedback de las guitarras eléctricas. The Swedish David and Per comprise Library Tapes who formed in the summer of last year. David does the programming, plays the piano and acoustic guitar and Per plays balalaica [Russian cord instrument from the laud family], acoustic and electric guitar [with bow] and piano.
Their music is gorgeous and elegant, melancholic and murky that evokes grey images and pale colors. Their sound is a perfect blend of piano timbres and acoustic guitar chords and distorted electric guitars and feedbacks. **En “Alone In The Bright…” hay bellas armonías de piano y guitarra acústica, pero también disonancia y guitarras distorsionadas. ¿Cómo podrían explicar esta relación entre el ruido y las armonías?**
David: “El piano y la guitarra acústica se sostiene más por la tristeza que tenemos y las guitarras distorsionadas y feedbacks son una expresión más de angustia, supongo…”
Per: “Creo que es una forma de expresar la dualidad entre nuestra mutua vida diaria y también nuestro proceso musical, los repentinos cambios desde la completa oscuridad hasta la resplandeciente luz de una completa armonía”.
**Puedo ligeramente percibir algunas grabaciones de campo en “Alone In The Bright…”, sonidos íntimos como el crujido de una puerta o parecidos. ¿Por qué escogieron este tipo de sonidos?**
David: “Creo que agrega algunos de nuestros sentimientos a las canciones. No voy a explicar lo que las canciones significan para nosotros, dado que pienso que es importante que el escucha pueda hacer sus propias interpretaciones…”
Per: “Estoy de acuerdo”.
**Las atmósferas oscuras y melancólicas del álbum reflejan muy bien la estación de invierno cuando fue hecho este trabajo. ¿Parece que el medio ambiente de ustedes es una importante influencia en la música de Library Tapes?**
David: “Creo que el CD es melancólico y oscuro porque ninguno de nosotros se sintió tan bien al momento que lo escribimos y grabamos y podría no tener mucho que ver con nuestro medio ambiente. Pero obviamente no sé si hubiéramos hecho un disco tan oscuro si estuviéramos viviendo en España o donde sea”.
Per: “La melancolía en el CD no es algo que hayamos agregado por motivo de ‘algo’, sino que más bien refleja la pesada sensación de alienación que se apodera de nosotros de cuando en cuando y también creo que el medio ambiente que hemos visitado mientras hemos andado por ahí, reuniendo grabaciones de campo y filmando nuestro telón de fondo nos ha influenciado, dado que caminamos mucho e intercambiamos ideas para algunas de las canciones en un paraje desértico industrial fuera de la ciudad”.
**¿Nos podrían comentar acerca de sus proyectos paralelos?**
Per: “Hago recitales con música instrumental aparte de mis escritos y también soy la mitad de los dúos Ailith y Coulisses”.
David: “Hago música bajo los nombres de Black River Falls, Across The Lake y con mi propio nombre. Es todo instrumental… En el futuro en el sitio web de Library Tapes van a haber MP3’s de todos nuestros proyectos paralelos”.

**On ‘Alone In The Bright…’ there are nice harmonies with classical piano and acoustic guitar but also dissonance and distorted guitars. How could you explain this relation between noise and harmonies?**
David: “The piano and acoustic guitar stands more for the sadness we have and the distorted guitars and feedbacks are an expression more of anger I guess…”
Per: “I think it kind of expresses the duality in our mutual common day-life and also our creative musical process, the sudden turns from complete darkness to the most shimmering light of a full and complete inner self in harmony.”
**I can slightly perceive some field recordings on ‘Alone In The Bright…’, intimate sounds like a crackle of a door or so. Why did you choose these kinds of sounds?**
David: “I think it adds some of our feelings to the songs. I’m not going to explain what the songs mean to us since I think it’s important that the listener can make their own interpretations…”
Per: “I agree.”
**The melancholic and dark atmospheres of your album reflect very well the Winter time when it was done. It seems your environmental surroundings are an important influence on Library Tapes’s music?**
David: “I think the CD is melancholic and dark because none of us felt so good at the moment when it was written and recorded and it might not have too much to do with the environmental surroundings maybe. But obviously I don’t know if we’d make a record as dark if we were living in Spain or whatever.”
Per: “The melancholy on the CD is nothing that we have added because of ‘something’, it rather reflects the heavy sense of alienation that grasps us from now to then and I also think that the environment that we have visited while strolling around, gathering field recordings and filming/shooting our backdrop influenced us since we walked a lot and discussed ideas for some of the songs at a deserted industrial landscape outside our town.”
**Could you please tell us about your other musical projects?**
Per: “I make spoken word/instrumental-based music besides my writing and I’m also one half of the duo Ailith and one half of the duo Coulisses.”
David: “I make music under the names Black River Falls, Across The Lake and my own name. It’s all instrumental… There will be MP3s at the Library Tapes website with all of our side-projects in the future…”
