Tilia
El músico alemán y artista visual Alexander Peterhaensel aka Tilia de la ciudad de Colonia, combina música digital con incrustaciones de elementos clásicos. Su reciente disco “Vous Rêvez/Vous Ne Rêvez Pas” editado en Crónica Electrónica el 2004 da cuenta de eso, en el que se pueden apreciar piezas minimal de loop de piano bajo procesamiento de glitches y voces entrecortadas.
Peterhaensel también ha producido la música para trabajos audiovisuales, disponibles en formato MP3’s, cuales son “A Cologne Minute”, 2001, “America The Beautiful” y “Old Europe”, ambos de 2004.

His recent CD ‘Vous Rêvez/Vous Ne Rêvez Pas’ released on Crónica Electrónica in 2004 showcased these sounds, in which minimal pieces of piano loops processed with glitches can be appreciated together with hesitanting voices.
Peterhaensel also has produced music for audio-visual works, available on MP3’s, as ‘A Cologne Minute’, 2001, ‘America The Beautiful’ and ‘Old Europe’, both of 2004.

En tu música hay una enfoque muy cercano tanto de la música clásica como minimal. ¿Cómo se encuentran estos dos estilos en tu trabajo?
“Es cierto que tanto la música clásica como minimal tienen una gran influencia en en mi trabajo. Aunque deliberadamente no quise combinar estos dos tipos de música. Simplemente sucedió así; sino que sigo mi intuición y sentimientos”.
El arte de la carátula del CD muestra un día nublado de invierno. ¿Qué clase de imágenes tu incluye en tu video?
“Las imágenes que utilicé en mi video es básicamente footage que grabé con mi pequeña cámara digital, que también puede registrar un par de minutos de video. Es muy pequeña y muy manuable para tenerla siempre disponible para grabar rápidamente un instante muy especial. Utilicé material que grabé mientras estaba de gira en Marruecos, Polonia, Reino Unido y Cuba”.
De alguna manera yo estoy involucrado sentimentalmente con Cuba. ¿Nos podrías contar acerca de tu trabajo en este país?
“Yo también. Cuba es y será siempre un lugar especial para mí. Fui invitado a realizar un concierto en La Habana. Me quedé allí un rato y comencé a hacer música con músicos electrónicos locales. Qué bien salió la mezcla y qué gente más agradable. Espero que pueda volver allí pronto y termine el disco”.
Las voces al parecer juegan un rol importante en ‘Vous Rêvez/Vous Ne Rêvez Pas’. ¿Cuáles son sus significados?
“Sí y no. Quería que fueran percibibles pero que casi no se entendieran – como las voces que se escuchan cuando no estás seguro si estás despierto o durmiendo. Como si estuvieras en la playa observando las nubes en el enorme cielo, escuchando el mantra de las olas que van y vienen en el sueño”.
¿Qué clase de sonidos te gustaría desarrollar?
“Sonidos que sean verdaderos”.

In your music there is a close approach both classical and minimal music. How these two genres come together in your work?
«It is true that both classical and minimal music have a huge influence on my work. I didn’t deliberately try to combine those two kinds of music though. it just happened; I followed intuition and feelings.»
The artcover of the CD shows a winter cloudy day. Which are the kind of images you include in the video?
«The imagery I used in my video is mainly footage I shot with my little digital photo camera that can also record a couple of minutes of video. It is very small so it is super handy to always have it ready to quickly record a little special moment. I used material I shot while being on tour in Moroco, Poland, the UK and Cuba.»
In a way I’m sentimentally involved with Cuba. Please tell us about your work in this country.
«Me too. Cuba became and will always be a special place for me. I got invited to perform a concert in Havana. I stayed for a little while and started making music with local electronic musicians. What a nice mix – and what nice people. Hopefully I can return soon and finish a record.»
The voices seem to play an important role on “Vous Rêvez/Vous Ne Rêvez Pas”. Which are their meanings?
«Yes and no. I wanted them to be perceivable but almost not understandable – like voices you hear when you are not sure if you are still awake or sleeping already. As if you were on the beach, watching the clouds in the enormous sky, hearing the mantra of the waves, slowly fading in and out of dreams.»
What kind of sounds you would like to develop?
«Sounds which are honest.»
