Bird Show, ‘Lightning Ghost’, Kranky, 2006
Después de su magnífico debut en Kranky con “Green Inferno” [2005], Ben Vida se embarca en una gira que lo lleva a Italia y Norteamérica junto a Greg Davis y Keith Fullerton Whitman.
Parte del material tocado en vivo formó parte de “Lightning Ghost”, un disco intenso, con un Vida aportando su voz en una buen parte del álbum, en el que vierte sintetizadores, guitarra, campanillas, panderetas, variada percusión, piano, armonio, instrumentos orientales y palmas.
Con todo este arsenal, Vida propone canciones que invitan al trance con sus percusiones repetitivas y loops polirítmicos.
Esta es una constelación de timbres y nubes de texturas formadas por esta diversidad sonora junto a la ondulante voz de Vida que por momentos nos lleva a un viaje al pasado con Syd Barret.
“Lightning Ghost” tiene ese espíritu psicodélico que denota que muchos de sus temas son de libre improvisación y con un gran sentido melódico.

After his stunning debut on Kranky with ‘Green Inferno’ [2005], Ben Vida started a tour to Italy and the USA along with Greg Davis and Keith Fullerton Whitman.
Part of the material on ‘Lightning Ghost’ is taken from the live performances.
This is an intense album with Vida singing voice in most of the album, in which it spills synths, guitar, bells, tambourine, a varied percussion, piano, harmonium, Eastern instruments and handclaps.
Yet this arsenal Vida proposes songs that invite to a trance state of mind with repetitive percussion and polyrhythm loops. This is a constellation of timbres and hazy textures formed by this collage of sounds along with Vida’s rippled vocals that takes us to a trip to the past with Syd Barret.
‘Lightning Ghost’ has that psychedelic spirit that remark that many of the songs are free improvisation with a great melodic sense.
