Kenneth Kirschner, compositor minimalista de Nueva York, ha puesto su interés en la música aleatoria de John Cage y Morton Feldman utilizando tecnología como el programa multimedia Flash con el que crea distintas capas de música con MP3’s en forma simultánea. También ocupa cambiantes capas de sonido que se van sumando al azar desde una fuente de archivos de sonidos, en varios iPod que van funcionando en cascada. Aparte de la composición aleatoria Kirschner trabaja en las formas tradicionales y estructuradas.
Este músico neoyorquino ha editado sus trabajos en 12k en colaboración con Taylor Deupree, en el belga Subrosa y recientemente en el sello portugués Sirr junto a André Gonçalves. No obstante, varias de sus producciones se encuentran publicadas para su descarga en formato MP3 disponibles en su propio sitio web y en los netlabels españoles Conv y Alg-a. Este último, aglutina a una comunidad de artistas de música digital de Galicia y que ahora expande sus horizontes hacia territorios foráneos, constituyéndose a pasos acelerados en un referente obligado de música digital.
Los dos primeros temas consisten en dos piezas de piano y algunos glitch. Muy sobrio, minimalista y disonante. En tanto los otros dos tracks son capas ambientales compuestas de sonidos procesados digitalmente y registros de campo.
Este es un magnífico trabajo que muestra prolijidad en el uso de la técnica y capacidad creativa en las ideas musicales.

Kenneth Kirschner is a New York based minimalist composer that has put his interest in the indeterminate music of John Cage and Morton Feldman. He has focused on technology by using the Flash multimedia software with which he creates different layers of music on MP3’s simultaneously. Also he occupies shifting layers of sound that are added at random from a source of sounds files, on several iPod’s working in tandem. Apart from the indeterminate composition Kirschner works in the traditional and “fixed” forms, in his words.
The New Yorker has published his works on 12k in collaboration with Taylor Deupree, on the Belgian Subrosa label and recently on Portuguese’s Sirr along with André Gonçalves. Anyway, several of his works are released in his own website and on the Spanish Conv and Alg-a netlabels which are available for free download in MP3 format. The Alg-a netlabel agglutinates a community of digital music artists from Galicia that now expands its horizons towards foreign territories, constituting itself in quickened steps in a leading referring of digital music.
The first two tracks consist of two piano pieces and glitches. Very sober, minimalist and dissonant. In as much the other two tracks are ambient layers composed of processed sounds digitally and field recordings. This is a magnificent work that shows prolixity in the use of the technique and creative capacity for the musical ideas.
