Mudboy
Mudboy es un compositor norteamericano que combina elementos orgánicos y digitales. Casi teatral e irónico, Mudboy conjuga folk, future rock y minimalismo.
La música de Mudboy es producida por un órgano de fuelle; en su parte superior hay una suerte de sintetizador Yamaha y en la parte baja – una segunda corrida de teclado – hay un acordeón propulsado por aire. Suena muy peculiar, casi como una sala de conciertos fuera del espacio a cargo de un habilidoso músico.
Mientras los drones se expanden por todo el álbum, sonidos agudos y sampleos configuran el lado oscuro de “Hungry Ghosts!, These Songs are Doors”, editado el año pasado por Digitalis Recordings.

Mudboy is an American composer who combines organic and digital elements in his music. Almost theatrical and ironic, Mudboy blends folk, future rock and minimalism. Mudboy’s music is produced by a self-built pipe organ. In the upper part there is a kind of Yamaha synthesizer and in the lower part is an air accordion. It sounds very peculiar, barely like a concert hall in outer space performed by a skilful musician.
While drones expand all over the album, sharp sounds and samples configure the dark side of ‘Hungry Ghosts!, These Songs are Doors’ released last year on Digitalis Recordings.

¿Cómo salió la idea de construir el órgano de fuelle ‘Minnie’?
“MudboyMinnie es un producto de necesidad para poder hacer giras a Europa. Mis otros instrumentos eran muy grandes para llevarlos en avión y necesitaba algo pequeño que fuera por partes y que pudiera sobrevivir al sistema de maletas. También estoy cada vez más interesado en trabajar con frecuencias adecuadas de instrumentos de boquilla. Son muy interesantes – la parte baja del Mudboy mini es como si fuera un instrumento: un acordeón propulsado por aire”.
¿Cuál es la música que te inspiró para tu álbum “Hungry Ghost!”?
“Mientras hacía este disco escuché mucho ‘Here Come The Warm Jets’ de Brian Eno. También estoy muy metido con el disco ‘Ongakushitsu’ del japonés Aki Tsuyuko que realmente me informó para mi primer disco ‘This is Folk Music’”.
¿Hay alguna relación entre tu música y tu interés por visitar edificios abandonados?
“Hmmm… Me gusta el lado B de las cosas. Detrás de los edificios se encuentra lo interesante de la ciudad”.

How did come out the idea of self-build the “Minnie pipe organ”?
«The MudboyMinnie is the product of a need for me to tour in Europe. My other instruments were too large to take on a plane and I needed something smaller that came apart in pieces and could survive the luggage system. Also I am increasingly interested in working with sympathetic frequencies of reed instruments. They are very interesting — the lower part of the Mudboy mini is an air powered accordion-like instrument.»
Which is the music that has inspired you for your ‘Hungry Ghost!’ album?
«I listened to Brian Eno’s ‘Here Come The Warm Jets’ a lot making this record. I also am really into the Japanese, Aki Tsuyuko’s ‘Ongakushitsu’ that really informed my first record ‘This is Folk Music’.»
Is there any relation between your music and your interest in visiting abandoned buildings?
«Hmmm… I like the back side of things. Behind the building, the alleys of the city.»
