Library Tapes

Library Tapes, “A Summer Beneath the Trees”, Make Mine Music, 2008

Library Tapes, ‘A Summer Beneath the Trees’, Make Mine Music, 2008
Sweden’s David Wenngren aka Library Tapes released his sixth release since 2005 and this new album is the third released on English Make Mine Music imprint.
I feel that on ‘A Summer Beneath the Trees’ is more classical orientated work than previous releases and less noises of hiss and pop of vinyl. David plays piano, laptop and uses some few field recordings, and there are two guest musicians, Danny Norbury on cello and string arrangements, Peter Broderick all other instruments.
The art cover of the album shows a beautiful view to a wheat field although in the background there are some wind energy mills. This is the prelude for such elegant music where the string arrangements give to the album a fine touch of subtlety. ‘The Rivers Turned To Cobblestone’ is a very high point in the album with the in crescendo string arrangements, delivering an epic character.
