Edward Ka-Spel
Edward Ka-Spel nació en Londres, Inglaterra y pertenece al verdadero underground, aunque la mayor parte de su carrera musical la ha desarrollado desde principios de los ’80 en Holanda.
Contemporáneo con Nurse With Wound, Coil, Current 93 y de alguna forma colaboró con estos artistas, Edward Ka-Spel ha trabajado en el campo de la psicodelia, rock, folk y el dark, produciendo una vasta discografía como solista, con su principal banda Legendary Pink Dots y como miembro permanente de The Tear Garden (con cEvin Key de Skinny Puppy), The Silverman (con Phil Knight) y Mimir.
Además, ha sido co-fundador de Infrequent, Terminal Kaleidoscope y también conocido como D’Archangel, Che Banana, The Prophet Qa’Spell y Qa-Sepel.

Edward Ka-Spel born in London, England belongs to the underground and most of his musical career has been developed in the Netherlands since the early 80’s.
Contemporary of Nurse With Wound, Coil, Current 93 and somehow involved with some of these artists, Edward Ka-Spel has worked in the psychedelic, rock, dark, folk genres, creating a large discography as a solo artist, with his main and seminal Legendary Pink Dots band, and permanent member of The Tear Garden (with Skinny Puppy’s cEvin Key), The Silverman (with Phil Knight), and Mimir.
He is co-founder of Infrequent, Terminal Kaleidoscope and also known as D’Archangel, Che Banana, The Prophet Qa’Spell and Qa-Sepel.

¿Qué se siente estar haciendo música por más de 25 años? ¿Alguna vez te cansaste?
“La música es algo de lo cual es imposible cansarse, no importa cuánto la hayas hecho o escuchado. A veces llegas a puntos ciegos, lugares donde no sabes cómo regresar, pero la puerta siempre se abre, cual intervención divina”.
De seguro tú notas que tu música es original, con un carácter único, ¿qué nos puedes decir de eso?
“Es personal. Yo solo me pongo a mí mismo en lo que creo, todos mis lados, el bueno, el malo, incluso el feo. Ningún hombre es igual a otro, supongo que eso se refleja en la música”.
¿Ves alguna relación entre los sueños y la música? Pareciera que tú tienes sueños bastante vividos.
“De alguna manera yo lo provoco. Yo tiendo a dormir con la radio prendida, dejando que los sucesos del mundo impregnen mis sueños en vela. A veces pueden ser perturbadores, pero por lo general bastante vividos”.
Siempre noto que en las reviews de tu música te sienten como un artista muy siniestro. ¿Qué piensas de eso?
“¿Siniestro? No, lo siento, no estoy de acuerdo con eso; George Bush, Cheney, eso es ser siniestro. Yo solo soy yo mismo, y tengo mi lado oscuro, pero no es mi entera personalidad”.
En todo tu trabajo musical hay un notorio carácter infantil. ¿Qué piensas de los niños y la niñez?
“Tengo cuatro hijos, y son maravillosos, mucho más accesibles que los adultos, los que muchas veces tienden a aterrorizarme”.
¿Erotismo… crees que tu música es erótica? Me refiero en un sentido profundo. ¿Ves relaciones entre música y erotismo?
“Por cierto, hay una profunda conexión entre erotismo y sensibilidad. Me gusta pensar que mi música pulsa una cuerda profunda en los oyentes”.
¿Últimas palabras para los que te esperan con expectación en Chile?
“El entusiasmo es mutuo, agradezco tener la suerte de poder vivir esta especie de aventura musical en Chile”.

How does it feel being doing music more than 25 years! Did you ever get tired about it?
«Music is something that it’s impossible to grow tired of no matter how long you make it or listen to it. Sometimes there are blind allies and points where you wonder where to turn – but the door always opens almost as if by divine intervention.»
For sure you know that your music is very original, with a unique character… can you talk us about that?
«It’s personal… I can only put myself into what I create – all sides, good, bad even the ugly. No two of us are the same so I guess this has to reflect in the music.»
Do you see relations between your music and dreams? It seems you have very vivid dreams?
«In some ways I force it. I tend to sleep with the radio on, allowing the world’s events to permeate my waking dreams. Sometimes, it can be disturbing – but nearly always very vivid.»
I always notice in reviews of your music the feeling of seeing you as a sinister artist… what do you think about that?
«Sinister? No, sorry – I can’t agree with that. George Bush, Cheney – that’s sinister. I’m just being myself and I have a dark side, but it’s not my entire personality.»
In all your music works there is a notorious childish character… what do you think about childs and childhood?
«I have four of them and they are wonderful and often so much more reliable than adults, who often terrify me.»
Erotism… do you feel that your music is erotic? I mean deeply erotic? What relations do you see between music and erotism?
«For sure, there’s a strong connection between eroticism and sensitivity. I’d like to think that the music I create strikes a chord so deeply on the listeners.»
