Después de ‘Ecliptic Plane’, este el segundo disco que saca Joe Evans, músico y compositor inglés quien desde principios de los ’80 ha estado trabajando en la composición para sus propios proyectos, compañías de teatro e instalaciones. Desde 2009, dirige el sello Runningonair que edita el trabajo de artistas del avant-garde. ‘Affected Piano’ – que sólo está disponible como archivo descargable – fue creado en el otoño de 2011. Cada pieza se origina a partir de extractos breves tomados de partes de piano de otra obra. Las fases fueron tomadas, estiradas y distorsionadas, moduladas, filtradas, trabajadas por capas y luego arregladas tal como se puede apreciar en el disco. En ocasiones las fases iniciales se reintroducen en un patrón repetido.
Esta obra consta de cinco largos temas de más de 11 minutos cada uno. Dada la repetición de patrones tengo la impresión que es un solo tema dividido en cinco partes. La borrosa fotografía de un puente sobre un río tomada aparentemente en un día de invierno, es la perfecta postal para el fluir de drones que se despliegan a lo largo del disco y las extensas sesiones de cuerda y piano, todo ello trabajado en el fascinante e insospechado mundo del diseño sonoro.
‘Affected Piano’ es una bella pieza musical que muestra la exquisita sutileza sonora de este músico.

After ‘Ecliptic Plane’, this is the second release in this year that delivers Joe Evans, musician and songwriter from the UK who, since the early ’80s has been working on his own compositions, for theater companies and installations. Since 2009 he runs the Runningonair Music label that releases the work of avant-garde music artists.
‘Affected Piano’ – which is a DL release only – was created in the Autumn of 2011. Each piece originates from short excerpts of piano parts taken from other works. The phases were taken, stretched and distorted, modulated, filtered, layered and then arranged as you can hear them on the album. Sometimes the initial phases are reintroduced in a repeated pattern.
This work consists of five long pieces over 11 minutes each. Given the repeating patterns, I have the slightly idea that this is only one piece divided into five parts. The blurred photograph of a bridge over a river apparently taken in Winter season is the perfect picture in which the stream of drones deployed fluently along the piece. The long sessions of strings and piano, all worked by a musical software produce a fascinating and unsuspected world of sounds.
‘Affected Piano’ is a beautiful piece of music that shows the exquisite and subtle sound of Joe Evans.
