Sarin Smoke es el proyecto de dos renombrados artistas del underground actual. Se trata de Tom Carter (Charalambides) y Pete Swanson (Yellow Swans).
‘Vent’ es una colaboración y diálogo permanente de guitarras, y es el segundo álbum del dúo después de ‘Smokescreen’ (Three Lobed Recordings, 2007).
‘Atmen Ein’, que abre el disco, es un choque de guitarras con múltiples efectos cercanos a la distorsión. ‘Upsound’ define una línea con vocación más melódica con los punteos de una de las guitarras, en tanto la otra despliega toda su distorsión.
Con ‘Pranayama’ las cosas vuelven un poco a la calma con el dueto de acordes y ritmo pulsante y feedback que arroja una de las guitarras. El diálogo continúa en forma intensa y sostenida, sin dejar ningún espacio sin ese ruido cautivador y apabullante.
‘Black Mercury’ también arremete con fuerza con una mezcla de psicodelia y rock, donde las guitarras en su afán de pura distorsión van tejiendo una melodía de fondo, muy sutil en medio del caos sonoro.
No logro distinguir si es ‘Vent’ el que muestra riffs de bella factura y que se advierte en casi la mitad del disco que muestra en una de sus caras unas persianas sobre un fondo amarillo.
‘Atmen Aus’ trae algo más de quietud que luego se rompe cuando ambos guitarristas comienzan a rasgar las cuerdas de sus instrumentos hasta llegar a un in crescendo, donde se mezclan el ruido y la melodía.
La propuesta de estos dos grandes trae uno de los mejores discos de este año que termina.

Sarin Smoke is the project of two renowned underground artists nowadays. This is Tom Carter (Charalambides) and Pete Swanson (Yellow Swans).
‘Vent’ is a collaboration and ongoing guitar dialogue and is the duo’s second album after ‘Smokescreen’ (Three Lobed Recordings, 2007).
‘Atmen Ein’, that opens the album, is a soundclash of guitars with multiple effects close to distortion. ‘Upsound’ defines a more melodic line along with guitar riffs, while the other guitar deploys its distortion.
With ‘Pranayama’, things get a little quiet with the duet of chords and pulsating rhythm and feedback of one of the guitars. The dialogue continues very intense and sustained, leaving no space without that captivating and overwhelming noise.
‘Black Mercury’ also attacks with force with a mix of psychedelia and rock, where the guitars, in their quest for pure distortion, weave a background melody, subtle amid sound chaos.
I can not notice if ‘Vent’ showcases beautiful riffs crafted and is seen in nearly half of the LP showing blinds on a yellow background on one of its sides.
‘Atmen Aus’ brings a more still mood that suddenly breaks up when both guitarists start strumming up to an in crescendo, blending noise and melody.
The proposal of these two great artists brings one of the best albums of this past year.
